Green Tea Ice Cream Recipe



I fell in love with green tea ice cream at a Japanese restaurant in Toronto when I was a teenager. One spoonful and I was hooked. So delicious, so ....amazing! I was delighted when I moved to Japan...there was green tea ice cream everywhere!

Ok. Ok...because this is a website devoted to Japanese Healthy Eating, we should state that moderation is key...and homemade is best. Try this wonderfully simple green tea ice cream recipe today!

Green Tea Ice Cream

Makes: 400 ml

Ingredients
200ml Milk
60grams Refined Sugar
1 ½ Tbsp Matcha – Green Tea Powder (matcha)
100ml Whipping Cream

Directions
Place ice cubes into a bowl, Place a smaller bowl inside. Add Whipping Cream. Whip the cream with an electric mixer until thick. Let it stand. In another bowl, combine milk, sugar and green tea power. Blend for 30 seconds. Add the mixture to the whipping cream. Stir gently. Add slowly to your ice cream maker. Process for 20 minutues. Ready to serve!

No Ice cream maker? No problem!
Place the green tea ice cream mixture into a freezer proof container with a lid. Place into the freezer. Stir well every 15 minutes for 2 hours. Then stir occasionally until firm.

Serve with fresh or canned fruit, mochi, drizzled chocolate, be creative! In Japan, green tea ice cream is often served with a biscuit/wafer and red bean paste. Yum! You can buy canned red bean paste at Asian food stores.
